Group coaching sessions

We are thrilled to offer group coaching sessions for academics at any career level, whether you are on a post-doctoral contract or a full professor, you can choose the most adequate level for you.

There will be a series of 4 monthly sessions. During the first three sessions, you will be coached on 3 topics of key importance for your professional development. The fourth and last session has no pre-defined topic, the topic will be defined among the participants of the group during the first sessions.

The number of participants per group is 3 minimum and 6 maximum. A suitable date for the online sessions will be sought among the participants.

Every session will have the following format:

• Self-introduction by the participants and spelling out one personal question to answer during the session (5 min)
• Presentation by Damien Lacroix on the topic of the session (10 min)
• Discussion on the topic of the session with all the participants and personalised support received (30 min)
• Wrap up and plan of actions before the next session (10 min)

Coaching sessions for post-doctoral researchers:

For Stage 1, the topics of the first three sessions are:

• Securing your first academic position:
  In this session we will discuss the best strategies to secure your first academic position, reflecting in particular in your current position and the country you seek a position. We will discuss how to create an excellent application and how to perform in an interview. We will also discuss on what are the attributes needed to become an assistant professor.
• Developing your professional network:
  In this session, we will discuss how to develop your professional network, how to extend your reach to colleagues and how to best use your network to your means.
• Managing your time effectively:
  Time management is key to effectively progress in your research project and to develop the skills that are expected for an assistant professor. In this session, we will present time management tips so that you can do more in less time and with less stress.

Coaching sessions for assistant and associate professors:

For Stage 1, the topics of the first three sessions are:

• Getting research grants:
  Getting research grants is key to academic promotion and reputation. In this session, we will discuss strategies on increasing your chances to get research grant, we will personalise the strategies to your own individual experience and needs, as well as your geographical context.
• Managing the workload between research, teaching and admin:
  One of the main challenges of an academic is to balance the work load between research, teaching and admin duties. In this session, we will discuss how to manage your time to fulfil all your duties, and how you should prioritise your efforts.
• Becoming the next leader:
  For the success of your academic career it is crucial that you are seen as the next leader, whether internally for promotion, or externally for recognition. In this session we will discuss strategies to position yourself as a future leader, discussing the importance of grants, publications, conferences, invitations to speak, academic-related boards, etc…

Coaching sessions for full professors:

For Stage 1, the topics of the first three sessions are:

• Leading your team:
  You want to lead successfully your team and you want to have your team that excels at what they do. In this session, we will discuss on tips to greatly enhance leadership of your team and what should be your leadership style depending on the situation.
• Leading a large project:
  As a Professor you are expected to lead projects which are increasingly becoming bigger and more complex. In this session, we will discuss what to watch out in large projects, how to engage all the stakeholders and make sure that your leadership is a success. We will personalise the discussion depending on your experience, and on the project that you are involved or that you target.
• Leading in your field and beyond:
  In this session highly personalised to your needs, we will work on developing a personal strategy for you to become or continue to be a leader in your field and beyond. We will discuss your strategy regarding publications, organisation of events, election in scientific boards, awards, invitations for keynote speeches, etc.

The small print: A minimum of 3 participants is required to organise the group session. Once that quota is reached, confirmation will be sent to you and the exact dates will be set with the participants. If the quota was not reached, you will be reimbursed 100%.
